The Jazz Academy will again focus on learning jazz through performances in small group combos.
Students will learn the basics of jazz improvisation, theory and harmony, and pratical performance
practices through the study of American Standards and Jazz Classics in weekly workshop classes.
We find this to be a good complement to the school band programs. 

The Jazz Academy will begin an 11-week semester starting the week of September 28th.
Workshop classes will meet on either Tuesdays or Thursdays according to age and
playing level. Times will  start at 3:45 for middle school and 4:00 for High
school levels and go for an hour and a half.

Weekly workshops will be run by myself or Joe Manis

Cost this year will be $140 per semester.
With 11 rehearsals and 2 concerts per semester, that is less than $12 per service, less than $8 per hour.
 There is finical aid for those who need assistance as usual.

All students will be required to have a copy of the legally published “The Real Book”,
6th edition for your instrument. Bass and trombone players are encouraged to learn to use
a “C” treble clef book. You can buy these at “Pacific Winds” or at the “Buy and Sell”
downtown. They are $25 - $29. The “original” Real Book, an illegal book, will not be used.
